On Friday, October 11th, STI Group hit an important milestone, both in terms of our company history and in our on-going dedication to giving back to the community. We hosted the 9th Annual Richard Purkey, Sr. Memorial Golf Tournament at Bayou Din Golf Club. The event was sponsored by local STI Group partner companies and consisted of 36 four-man teams. Proceeds from the event benefitted the South East Texas Food Bank.

This year was very special because we raised over $60,000 for the South East Texas Food Bank, which is a record for the event. The Southeast Texas Food Bank is committed to fighting hunger and malnutrition in Southeast Texas and is serves the southeast counties of Orange, Jasper, Newton, Sabine, Tyler, Jefferson, Hardin, and Polk. The food bank does an amazing job stretching every dollar to feed needy families. In fact each $1 donation creates 4 meals for the hungry. That means that with the $60,000+ donation from the golf tournament over 240,000 meals can be served.

Here at STI Group we are incredibly proud of this charitable accomplishment; however, we could not have done it without our generous sponsors. The following 34 companies demonstrated an outstanding civic and humanitarian spirit with their contributions:

Thanks to the loyal support of our community, STI Group has been able to leverage partnerships and goodwill into a platform for giving. It has been 35 years since Richard Purkey, Sr. first started a small sheet metal business called Southeast Texas Metal Works and since that time we have grown to include a family of over 2,200 employees. We are committed to giving back to the communities that made this possible. We are already looking forward to next year’s tournament and we know that with the help of our community and sponsors we can set another new record.
