STI Group: Entering The Marcellus Market

Marcellus shale mapThe STI Group has expanded its operations to include ongoing projects in areas of the Marcellus Shale.

Also referred to as the Marcellus Formation, this black, low density, carbonaceous (organic rich) shale occurs in the subsurface beneath much of Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York. Small areas of Maryland, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia are also part of the Marcellus Shale.

It is considered to contain an incredibly large reserve of natural gas and liquids. The Marcellus formation lies under more than 60 percent of the state of Pennsylvania alone. Some geologists and petroleum engineers believe that the massive shale formation may hold as much as 500 to 700 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. This amount of natural gas in the Marcellus Shale could supply the entire east coast for the next 50 years according to some geologists.

STI Group benefits from being a turn key operation. This affords them the opportunity to move forward quickly in establishing not only site reclamation at the Marcellus Shale area but also on site fabrication of oil and natural gas pipeline construction, production hook ups, and other oil and gas field services.

Just within the last two months STI Group has begun establishing a facility in Uniontown, PA where 99 percent of their fabrication for projects at the Marcellus site will be conducted. This is in addition to the over 300,000 square feet of fabrication space that the company maintains back at their Southeast Texas facilities. The group has also acquired key personnel, each with over 30 years of experience, to oversee their Pennsylvania operations.

According to Paul Spence, CEO of the third generation family company, the Marcellus formation “Provides potential company growth that is unparalleled to any other time during my tenure at STI Group”
