STI Group hosted its 10th Annual Richard Purkey, Sr. Memorial Golf Tournament at Bayou Din on Friday, October 24th. This highly anticipated yearly tournament is designed as a fundraising event with proceeds going to the Southeast Texas Food Bank, a charitable organization dedicated to combating hunger in the Southeast Texas area while also providing a number of worthy programs and opportunities for underprivileged Texas families. We are excited to announce that the tournament was a huge fundraising success!

All told the event brought in near-record donations at about $56,000 raised. To put that into perspective, thanks to the incredible efficiency of the food bank that will equal about 224,000 meals served throughout the counties of Jefferson, Hardin, Polk, Tyler, Newton, Sabine, Jasper, and Orange. This massive success would not have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors:

We’re already looking forward to next year’s event and we’re hoping to see lots of returning faces. Together we can end the hunger epidemic in Southeast Texas.

The tournament itself is in honor of STI Group’s founder, Richard Purkey, Sr. He began the company as a small sheet metal business named Southeast Texas Metal Works. Now, over 35 years later that small company has blossomed into STI Group with over 2,200 employees. Purkey’s and our success is in large part founded on the principle of giving back to the community. That is a legacy STI Group is committed to continuing with our annual charity golf tournaments as well as our charitable foundation and regular scholarships. Please join us for next for year’s event.
